The Heart and Its Functioning –
The heart is a vital muscular organ that pumps blood throughout the body, delivering oxygen and nutrients while removing waste. It’s located in the chest cavity, between the lungs and slightly to the left of the sternum. The heart’s primary function is to act as a pump, ensuring continuous blood circulation.
Symptoms of Heart Disease – Heart disease describes a number of conditions that affect the heart, including:
Coronary artery disease is a common heart disease that affects the major blood vessels that supply blood to the heart muscle. The buildup of fat, cholesterol and other substances in and on artery walls usually causes coronary artery disease. This buildup is called plaque. The buildup of plaque in the arteries is called atherosclerosis (eth-ur-o-skluh-ro-sis). Atherosclerosis reduces blood flow to the heart and other parts of the body. Chest tightness,
Chest pressure
and chest discomfort, called angina.
Difficulty breathing.
Pain in the neck, jaw, throat, upper abdomen or back. Pain, numbness, weakness or coldness in the legs or arms if the blood vessels in those areas of the body become narrowed.

If a heart valve becomes narrowed, this is called stenosis. If a heart valve allows blood to flow backwards, this is called regurgitation. The symptoms of heart valve disease depend on which valve is not working properly. Symptoms may include –
